Restytlane FAQs

What is Restylane?

Restalyne is injected into the skin in gel form, adding volume to the lips and smoothening out wrinkles and skin folds. Restalyne is made up of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance produced by the body. Unlike some dermal fillers, Restylane is not derived from animals and the treatment does not require an allergy test.

How is a Restylane treatment performed?

Restalyne treatment is a simple procedure and consists of injecting small amounts crystal-clear gel into the skin with a fine needle. The gel adds additional volume to the skin and shape to the lips.

How long will the Restylane treatment session take?

The Restalyne treatment process is quick and easy. It can be administered right away, since the treatment does not require an allergy pre-test. The entire process takes about 30 minutes, depending on the preferences of the patient.

What are the benefits of Restylane?

Restylane adds volume to the lips while smoothing out facial folds, creases, and wrinkles. It also encourages natural collagen production and may keep existing collagen from breaking down. The effects of Restylane become more noticeable and long-lasting with regular injections.

What areas can be treated with Restylane?

Restalyne is most commonly used in the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth), and the lips, where is smoothens out wrinkles and enhances the shapes of facial features. Wrinkles that are either very deep or very light may be harder to treat. Contact JW Medspa for a consultation.

What will I look like after a Restylane treatment?

Restylane provides instant results. Immediately after treatment, you may experience slight discomfort due to light swelling or sensitivity in the treated area. Any redness, swelling, or itching is temporary and should disappear within a few days. Swelling or an uneven appearance of the lips may last for up to a week. If any symptoms persist for longer, make sure to contact your physician.

What can I expect after my Restylane treatment?

Avoid applying excessive pressure to the treated area for the next 48 hours. Take care not to pucker your lips throughout this time, if you've had a lip enhancement. Make sure to stay away from extreme heat (sunbathing, solariums) and extreme cold until the initial swelling and redness subside.

Can Restylane be removed?

Although Restylane cannot be removed, it eventually dissolves naturally. You may choose to complete the treatment in a series of steps, if you are unsure about what kind of outcome you want.

Can Restylane replace surgical procedures?

No. Although Restylane is not a replacement for surgery, the two procedures can be used together in order to remove the optimal amount of wrinkles.

Are there any side effects to using Restylane?

The chances of having an allergic reaction to Restylane are little to none. However, you may experience some common injection-related reactions following treatment such as swelling, itching, redness, discoloration, or tenderness at the site of injection. Generally, these issues resolve themselves within a week for skin and lip injections. Other more severe reactions to Restylane are very rare. About 1 out of every 2000 treated patients report hypersensitive reactions in the area of injection. Redness, tenderness, and a rash-like formation have been known to occur within a few days to several weeks after receiving an injection. In these cases, the symptoms are known to be mild to moderate and self-resolving after about two weeks. This FAQs is not an exhaustive account of all the information known about these products. For more information, contact your general practitioner.

How long does the effect of a Restylane treatment last?

The effects of Restylane depend on the individual and factors like skin structure, age, lifestyle, desired outcome, and the practitioner's injection technique. Repeated treatments and touch-ups will increase the duration of Restylane's effects. When treating wrinkles and folds, patients usually choose to have a new treatment after one year, or after six months for lip enhancements.

Is Restylane affected by cold or hot weather?

Exposure to extreme heat (by sunbathing or in a solarium) or cold during the first few days following treatment can result in inflammation of the treated area. Once Restylane takes effect, it becomes integrated into the body and will adjust to your regular body temperature.

How will my skin look without follow-up Restylane treatments?

Once the initial Restylane treatment wears off, the skin and lips will resume their appearance from before treatment. With follow-up injections, you can maintain the corrected appearance.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally throughout the body. It lubricates the joints, gives shape to the eyes, and adds volume to the skin. In Restylane, the hyaluronic acid is synthetic and stabilized for a long period of time.
